REPAIR

Often, simple tricks and a bit of skill are enough to repair a favorite item that has become damaged. In our video tutorials, we show you examples of how to quickly and easily sew on buttons, darn holes, and repair hems.

In addition, together with the professional Cologne-based tailor shop PlisseeBecker, we offer a professional repair service.

Sewing on a button

  • Remove any remaining thread and mark the spot with a pencil
  • Thread 60cm of matching thread through the eye of the needle until it is centered and knot the ends together
  • Hold the button against the garment, insert the needle from the back
  • Various stitch patterns can be chosen, such as two parallel lines or a cross stitch
  • Repeat the stitches approx. 8-10 times
  • Keep a little distance between the button and the material so that the button remains flexible
  • Wrap the thread around the button a few times
  • Insert from the back to create a loop
  • Pass the thread through the loop, pull tight and trim

Darning a hole

  • Choose the thread and needle according to the fabric – for example, use a thick needle for coarse knitwear and a thin one for cotton.
Tip: Every LANIUS knitwear item comes with extra yarn for repairs
  • Thread the needle and tie a knot
  • Insert the needle from the inside at a stable point on the edge of the hole
  • Place the darning mushroom with the rounded surface under the clothing
  • Sew in parallel lines across the hole
  • To secure, insert the needle into the fabric once more to create a loop
  • Pass the thread through the loop, pull tight, and trim

Repairing a hem seam

  • Thread a color-matching thread into the needle and tie a knot at the end so it does not slip
  • Turn the garment inside out
  • Start the seam between the outside and the inside so that the knot is no longer visible
  • Catch a few threads of fabric from the garment
  • Grasp the fabric threads lying next to the entry point
  • Repeat until the entire hem is sewn tight
  • Sew loosely so that no tension is visible from the outside
  • Stitch from behind to create a loop
  • Pass the thread through the loop, pull tight, and cut off

Our repair service

Together with the professional Cologne tailor shop Plissee Becker, which has accompanied our founder Claudia Lanius since the beginning of her fashion career, we offer an EU-wide repair service. With over 70 years of experience, the specialist shop now shines with true expertise in the field of invisible mending.

Plissee Becker, like hardly any other company, stands for cross-generational Cologne city history: founded by the Becker family in 1951, Plissee Becker was handed over to Lisbeth and Arthur Teichmann in the 60s. Their son Rolf Teichmann still runs the business today.

Such expertise impresses us, and we are pleased to have gained Plissee Becker as a partner for our new repair service. We are making it easier to access professional repairs for your favorite items and will cover the shipping costs within Germany.

What results can I expect? How good is the quality?

To achieve the best desired result, we use, wherever possible, the original yarns and original wool, which we obtain from the so-called "empty stitches" that every sweater has. We use these materials and supplement them as needed with materials from our own extensive stock.

For damage in the elbow area, we sometimes work with high-quality leather trim. For this, our invisible mending experts use only wafer-thin goat leather of the best quality, which, despite its fineness, is characterized by extremely high stability and durability.

It is not always possible to make every damage completely invisible, but the result is usually such that one has to look very closely to recognize a former damage.
